Deep Tissue Massage Therapy
Deep Tissue Massage Therapy applies deeper pressure that is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus of a Deep Tissue Massage is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding the muscles, bones, and joints). Specific strokes in a Deep Tissue Massage are used to manipulate tissues while movement techniques are used to release muscular congestion. Deep Tissue Massage helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins, and get blood and oxygen circulating. Deep Tissue Massage is both corrective and therapeutic. Deep Tissue Massage is beneficial for sports injuries and chronic pain.
Trigger Point Massage Therapy
Trigger Point Massage Therapy is a technique that involves the application of the pressure applied to the Trigger Point of the tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called Myofascial (Myo meaning muscle, Fascial meaning connective tissue) Trigger Point Therapy. Trigger Point Massage is particularly good in releasing very tight muscles and putting them back to a semi relaxed state until they have calmed down from being so tight. Trigger Point Massage can also be combined with Deep Tissue Massage and MRT (Movement Release Technique) for even better results of exceptionally sore muscles. This Technique is applied in Sports Massage.
Advanced MRT (Movement Release Technique) is combining movement of the limb while applying pressure deep into the active muscle to encourage the muscle to release from its tight state. MRT is combined with Deep Tissue and Trigger Point massages. All three together are applied when having a Sports Massage.

How to Prepare for your Massage
Hydrate Before and After Your Appointment
Make sure to drink plenty of water before and after your massage appointment.
This will help relieve the inflammation (dis-ease) and flush toxins from your muscles into your lymphatic system to drain. By drinking lots of water you are aiding essential nutrients and oxygen to flow properly through your body to hydrate your muscles and to get the best results from your massage.
Your massage starts to break up and release those built-up toxins as your therapist loosens your muscles. Massage gets your blood and oxygen circulating properly. Massage is dehydrating in nature as it tries to flush the toxins from your body. So, staying hydrated before and after a massage is strongly recommended because the water helps flush out those released toxins.
I also recommend that you take a warm shower after your massage and NOT a hot one. By having a hot shower this may also dehydrate you and your muscles will be slower to enjoy the benefits of your Massage.
Wear Loose Comfortable Clothing
When you prepare for a massage, plan to wear, or bring loose comfortable clothing with you. You will be asked to remove your clothing down to your underwear, or to your comfort level (leaving your underwear on) for your massage.
Wearing loose clothing to your massage will make the undressing process much easier for you. After your massage, you may feel tender or just extremely relaxed and you will appreciate not having to put on restrictive clothing.
The relaxation of your body, mind and soul is key to getting the most out of your massage session. Your therapist will be working to loosen your muscles and normal breathing helps expedite relaxation.
Often, people hold their breath or limit their breathing while on the massage table because they feel nervous – this can be counterproductive. Holding your breath hinders the oxygen from getting to your muscles and interferes with the healing process of removing toxins from the body. Often this contracts your muscles more, making them harder to loosen and this can be an uncomfortable experience.
Inhale and exhale normally while your therapist executes various massage techniques, so you get the best benefits from your massage.
Do Not Be Afraid to Communicate
Your massage therapist is there to help you feel better.
If you have a specific problem area you want targeted or purely just want to relax on the table – let your therapist know.
Your massage therapist will use oils and lotions to reduce friction during your massage, make sure you communicate any allergies you may have.
Additionally, please let your therapist know if you experience any discomfort from applied pressure so they can adjust their technique to accommodate your physical needs.
